Project Description
The revitalised Walsh Bay Arts precinct is home to a prestigious group of companies: Sydney Theatre Company; Sydney Dance Company; Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, Gonwana Choirs; The Song Company; Bell Shakespeare, Australian Chamber Orchestra and Austrlian Theatre of Young People.
The redevelopment includes:
Wharf 4/5
- Refurbishment of the arts facilities and associated Shore Sheds for Sydney Theatre Company, Bangarra Dance Theatre, Sydney Dance Company, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, Gondwana and Song Company and new commercial retail facilities
Pier 2/3
- The adaptive re-use of the building for new arts facilities, retaining a heritage commercial events / art space fo events such as Sydney Writers Festival, Biennale of Sydney and a wide range of commercial and artistic events.
Heritage at Walsh Bay
- The Walsh Bay Wharves were constructed in the 1920’s and considered the ‘jewel in the crown’ of extensive harbour-side redevelopment in Sydney. They were though highly-innovative structures and subsequently catered to international shipping for many years.
Central were contracted to provide design and construction services on this project.
